A futuristic superyacht custom built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs has been turning heads after arriving on the Gold Coast.

The $170 million Venus superyacht, a 78m-long vessel with six bedrooms, docked at Southport Yacht Club after sailing into the Seaway on Monday morning.

The yacht is owned by Laurene Powell Jobs, who inherited the boat along with other assets from her late husband after he died from pancreatic cancer in October 2011.

Tragically, Mr Jobs never got to sail on the yacht, which he commissioned in 2008. It was launched a year after his death.

Jobs was reported to have told to his biographer: “I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat. But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.”

Details of the boat’s interior have never been revealed, however it is believed to boast the best of modern technology.

Designed by legendary French designer Philippe Starck, it features a striking minimalist exterior.

The yacht was last spotted in waters off the Sunshine Coast in late December.

It was previously seen at Cairns in August and is believed to have spent a number of months cruising Queensland waters and visiting Pacific islands including New Caledonia and Fiji.

It is not known if Ms Powell Jobs was on the Venus when it arrived on the Gold Coast.

Its arrival in the city comes amid warnings a tropical cyclone will make landfall between Innisfail and Airlie Beach on Thursday.

Maritime Safety Queensland General Manager Kell Dillon on Monday urged boaties across Queensland to secure their vessels and reassess plans to head out on the water.

“If in doubt, don’t go out,” he said. “Stay ashore until the relevant authorities say it is safe to go out again.”
