Two hospitality veterans who mastered fine dining on the world’s most exclusive super yachts are trading the high seas for a Gold Coast neighbourhood cafe.
Rob and Eden Mohr are set to open their first solo adventure called Mohr, pronounced More, in Burleigh Heads on December 5.
The duo said they are well versed in the hospitality industry with a combined 22 years of experience.
“I have been cheffing for over 15 years, from high end restaurants like Hamilton Island Yacht Club to running kitchens on super yachts around the world,” Mr Mohr said.
While Mrs Mohr said she spent seven years in the yachting world and made her way up to become chief stewardess.
“Mohr is the natural next step (for us),” Mr Mohr said.
“We finally had the right place, the right timing and had been sitting on the right idea.”
The pair currently run a private chef and premium housekeeping business on the Gold Coast.
“It felt like the moment to build something permanent for the community we’ve already been feeding for years,” he said.
Mr Mohr said their new cafe and deli would be a “warm, clean, modern and community-driven” hub for locals.
“After years in food and hospitality, we saw how much people (including us) just want fresh, flavour-driven meals that feel good to eat and fit into real life,” he said.
“A place that’s welcoming, easy to show up to, and has options for everyone whether you are plant-based, not plant-based, picky, busy or just hungry.”
Mr Mohr said they will have a full chef-led menu, created by himself, and even ready-made takeaway meals for “people who forgot to meal-prep”.
“A big part of the inspiration was also the community,” he said.
“We love this area, and we wanted to create a spot that feels like a natural part of people’s week.
“This part of the Gold Coast is special to us.
“We live nearby, we spend most of our time in this little Miami/North Burleigh pocket, it’s an incredible block with so many epic businesses.”
Mr Mohr said they were excited to open at the bookend of the Light Rail Stage 3 construction.
“It’ll only bring more people into the area, and we’re building Mohr to be a neighbourhood staple. The more accessible this area becomes, the better.”
