A Noosa stock broker has been ripped into by a magistrate after he drove on a Hope Island road with cocaine in his system.
Richard James Pyke-Nott, 20, pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday to one count of driving while a relevant drug, cocaine, was present in his saliva.
The court heard police intercepted a car on Broadwater Ave, Hope Island around 1am on April 25, 2025.
Pyke-Nott who was driving the car submitted to a roadside drug test.
He tested positive for cocaine.
The court heard Pyke-Nott told police he had consumed the drug earlier.
The young offender, who was representing himself in court, said that he had used cocaine a few days earlier and he wasn’t under the influence of the drug at the time.
He confirmed he had no other traffic offences and had gotten to court thanks to the help of a friend.
He told Magistrate Pamela Dowse that he was a stock broker.
“Well you’ve got too much money,” Ms Dowse said.
“No, your honour. I wish,” he said.
Pyke-Nott’s reply received a frown and a pause from the magistrate.
“Definitely,” she said. “At 20 [years old] buying cocaine?”
Pyke-Nott told the court he lived at home at Noosa, which he said he moved to six months ago.
Ms Dowse noted it was very expensive to live in that area.
She said she would like to know what Pyke-Nott’s mother thought about this.
“You haven’t even told her, have you?” Ms Dowse said.
“No I have,” Pyke-Nott told the court.
“I don’t believe you,” Ms Dowse said.
In her sentencing, Ms Dowse took into account the guilty plea.
“I’m horrified,” she said to Pyke-Nott. “Horrified that you think it’s all right to be doing what you’re doing.”
Pyke-Nott was fined $500 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for one month.
