‘Good on him’: Australians react to Donald Trump’s presidential victory

Prominent Gold Coasters are divided on the US election outcome - from being warmly supportive to aghast.

Prominent Gold Coast criminal lawyer Campbell MacCallum welcomed the re-election of Mr Trump - who vowed to “make America healthy again” - and called for sweeping changes to come in on January 20 following his inauguration.

“Executive Orders on day 1 please Trumpy: 1 - destroy woke, 2 - end DEl, 3 - cease the butchering and mutilation of children by outlawing trans ideology among children, 4 - get men out of women’s sports and 5 - cut all ties with Australia and offer no protection until Albanese is overthrown and the new government adopts steps 1-4 above.”

He also shared an anti-trans meme which said: “Teach your boys to be men before their teachers teach them to be women.”

Mayor Tom Tate neither welcomed Mr Trump’s return, nor scorned it, saying the city would monitor the US for potential opportunities for the city: “The democratic process has taken place, and the people have spoken, so we will watch with interest over the next four years.”

Gold Coast medical entrepreneur Maninderjit ‘Mannu’ Kala, the co-founder of KnG Healthcare, simply reposted a 9News story showing Trump’s beaming face and headlined ‘He’s back’ to his Instagram.

Abbie Chatfield who posted multiple times to her legion of TikTok followers about how upsetting it was during the count and then once the result was confirmed said she has “copped a lot of trolling” in the last 12 hours from men “saying the most horrifically sexist things, thinking that it’s funny”.

“Men now feel emboldened in their sexist rhetoric. The amount of trolling I’ve gotten in the past 12 hours is disgusting and it’s by uneducated, disgusting, sexist pig men.

“The lesson this teaches to men around the world, it’s going to become Andrew Tate supporters everywhere you f**cking look. The sexism, the misogyny, the lack of education.

“This is going to have such a huge impact and I’m already seeing it personally as someone on the internet and as a public figure, women getting called stupid, hysterical, ‘your body my choice’.

“This is why women are so upset, this is why it’s affecting us.”

“If you’re a woman in Australia and you think the US election doesn’t effect us, just know they now have permission to be outwardly sexist and support a rapist.

“Just know that, in your heart, know that they now have permission, they now think they are the majority and they’re so uneducated that they think because they’re the majority they are right.

“They now have a mission to be racist, transphobic, they have a mission to laugh about our reproductive health and our reproductive freedoms. Australia follows suit when it comes to America.

“The amount of abuse I’ve copped online even in the last 12 hours from men saying the most horrifically sexist things, thinking that it’s funny.

“This is what Andrew Tate has laid the pathway for. This is what people like Joe Rogan do.

“They’re now allowed to say the quiet part out loud and we’re going to cop it,” she said in a tearful address to her TikTok followers.

Gold Coast Bulletin columnist Ann Wason Moore paid respect to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris as she conceded defeat.

“Trump certainly wasn’t my choice but this is what the people of America chose. I don’t understand it, but I respect the institution of democracy, and I think the Democrats’ gracious acceptance of defeat should put paid to the great lie of a stolen election in 2020. (But of course it won’t.)

“Now it’s time to see if Trump can deliver all he promised - so I’m expecting to see an end to all wars, the death of inflation and a golden era for the American economy.

“However, my greatest concern is for the women of America living, or dying, with draconian abortion laws and under the shadow of extreme Christian nationalism.”

In a separate post he said; “MAKE AUSTRALIA GREAT AGAIN Who is prepared to step up and make it happen.”
