It’s jobs bonanza at Gold Coast-based luxury yacht manufacturer Riviera, with women being urged to apply in a bid to diversify the typically male-dominated industry.

The company has put the call out for about 90 new craftsmen and women to join its already 950-strong team.

Riviera apprentice and training manager Keira Badke said the manufacturer had a record 12 women join their team in January this year, and were hoping to grow that number in 2025.

“Historically, boat building has been seen to be a male-dominated industry but with the broad range of apprenticeships we now offer, that has very much changed,” she said.

“With our growing number of females there’s such a great dynamic across all our departments, and everyone works together to create our exceptional motor yachts.”

Apprentice Maddi Tuskin said she knew she wanted to be part of the Riviera team after completing her work experience there.

“It’s not just about, you know, getting your trade qualifications and going off, they really push you to be the best you can be,” she said.

“I came over to Riviera not knowing pretty much anything about boats, to now (being able) to sit here and tell you about the 68 [Sports Motor Yacht] like it’s the back of my hand,” she said.

The team at fellow Gold Coast-based luxury boat manufacturer Maritimo say they are always looking for new people to join their ranks, particularly those with qualifications such as a Certificate III in Marine Craft.

“Maritimo is always looking for competent young people ... we also look for other affiliated trades like composites technician, cabinet makers, (and) spray painters,” a spokeswoman said.

“Maritimo is strong believer in employing and training young women - more often than not, they possess a greater level of detail and are at the forefront in positions that require attention to the nth degree.”

Three Riviera apprentice program information evenings are being held, this month, at their manufacturing facility on July 9, 17 and 25. Registrations are open.
