Residents evacuated, roads blocked after gas leak at Hope Island

Roads were blocked by police and residents were forced to evacuate after a gas leak on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to Lyra Ave in Hope Island at around 8am on Friday after reports of a gas leak.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said it appeared a gas line had been hit during construction work.

A 100m exclusion zone was implemented with police and fireys evacuating residents from two nearby unit blocks.

Marina Qauys Blvd had to be closed off at around 9am.

The scene was deemed safe at about 9.30am and residents were able to return to their homes.
