Queensland Covid-19 Update: Health Minister Yvette D’Ath, Deputy Premier Steven Miles announce zero new cases

Queensland has recorded zero new cases after a school was sent into lockdown and a family tested positive yesterday - as NSW records 1262 new cases and even more deaths.

Two-thirds of Australians over 16 years have had one dose of vaccine

QUEENSLAND has recorded zero new local cases on Sunday.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said in a press conference it meant the state can “breathe a sigh of relief”.

It follows yesterday’s announcement the case of a 13-year-old Brisbane schoolgirl had caused several venues to be added to the state’s list of exposure sites.

Five members of her family also tested positive, including her mother, who is a staff member at Griffith University’s Nathan campus.

Anyone on the Gold Coast with symptoms is urged to come forward to get tested.

Dr Miles said: “We’re not out of the woods yet, though.

“But this is the best result we could have hoped for at this point of the outbreak.”

Victoria has recorded another 392 cases overnight.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian controversially announced last week she would no longer be holding daily press conferences.

Ms Berejiklian held another press conference on Sunday morning to announce the state had recorded 1262 new cases and seven more deaths.
