A site straddling the NSW border looks set to be transformed after plans were revealed for a luxury unit complex overlooking Tweed Heads.
The 16-unit, seven-storey complex would replace a one-storey brick house on Coolangatta’s Dixon St, according to plans lodged by developer OC2 Pty Ltd.
The site is owned by Keith Hornby and is the latest in a wave of high-density unit buildings proposed for some of the city’s southernmost streets.
Documents lodged with the council reveal the units would have three bedrooms each, while the ground-level apartment overlooking Goodwin Park would have a four-bedroom main residence and a one-bedroom studio.
“The proposed development at 27 Dixon St is an elegant, low-rise residential project located on the picturesque border of Queensland and New South Wales,” the reports reads.
“Positioned adjacent to Goodwin Park, the development captures the essence of its lush surroundings while delivering a thoughtfully designed, community-focused living experience.”
It comes just weeks after the Bulletin revealed the dramatic uptick in development in the area had led to more cars parked on the street in Coolangatta.
A picture taken by a Coolangatta resident showed cars jamming a decent length of Musgrave St.
The cars were parked along the two-way section of Musgrave St, causing such bad congestion only one car could fit through at a time.
Councillor Gail O’Neill said at the time she was “more than aware” of concerns about increasing development in the area.
“But Coolangatta CBD, Rainbow Bay and the coastal area of Kirra have been zoned ‘high and medium density’ for in excess of 20 years under several previous city plans,” she said in January.
“These areas are envisaged for both residential and tourist accommodation.”
