Two separate groups of known juvenile offenders have allegedly run riot across the Gold Coast driving dangerously in a stolen car and robbing a business in daylight at knifepoint.
The chaos began on Sunday morning when a Mazda CX5 was allegedly stolen by a number of juveniles from a home in Highland Park.
“They were seen driving dangerously, we were notified and we ascertained that the vehicle was stolen,” Gold Coast Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said.
“We tracked it to an address in Nerang, three people in the vehicle ran. Police established cordons and we located them all.”
Police have charged two boys, aged 13 and 17 over the alleged vehicle theft, they were denied bail to face Southport Children’s Court on Monday. A 16-year-old girl was also dealt with under the juvenile justice act.
“The two that were held in custody are well known to us and that’s why they were held in custody, the police believed it was to great of a risk to give them bail,” Chief Supt Hanlon said.
“Very concerning that these people are out and about (allegedly) driving vehicles, let alone (allegedly) driving stolen vehicles.
“Thankfully with the stolen vehicle, there wasn’t a crash and other people, innocent people weren’t injured.”
At about 11.30am the same day another group of teen offenders who are known to police allegedly held-up a business at knifepoint. Chief Supt Hanlon said two males entered the shop on Treasure Island Drive in Biggera Waters armed with a blade.
“Those responsible held the store up, stole some items and fled,” he said.
“Police responded immediately. We tracked them down and scooped them up very close to that address.”
Two teenage boys from Beenleigh and Hollywell have both been charged with armed robbery.
They were granted police bail to face Southport Childrens Court on November 27.
