Police are examining blood left behind at the scene of a break-in at a Gold Coast pharmacy which officers believe may be linked to a raid on a supermarket just 50 minutes earlier.

At about 2.30am on Sunday two men used bolt cutters to break into the an IGA supermarket on Lae Drive in Runaway Bay.

The pair stole items from the supermarket before making off in a grey Volkswagen.

At 3.20am the Chirn Park pharmacy at Musgrave Ave in Southport was also broken into.

Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said the scene had been forensically examined, with potential clues left behind by the offenders.

“We have forensically examined the scene and we’ve got some blood taken from the scene, so we’ll be assessing and testing that,” he said.

“But those offenders are still at large and our investigation is ongoing.”

Officers are also examining CCTV images from both scenes as they work to identify the offenders.

It is not yet known what was stolen in the robberies.

Chief Supt Hanlon said such robberies caused a lot of damage to businesses and appealed for anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage or other information to come forward to police.

“It just goes to show the way that offenders are working now, they’re very opportunistic,” he said.

“They want to get in, do as much damage as they can before we track them down.

“There’s a cohort out there that will do as much damage as they can and our aim is to stop them. We know they’ll continue until we stop them.

“That’s why these investigations are important. That’s why we’re asking members of the public if they’ve got any information, to let us know.”

In a separate incident which is not believed to be linked to the Southport and Runaway Bay break-ins, police arrested two people shortly after midnight on Monday who allegedly broke into the Pearl Energy service station on Mountain View Ave in Miami.

An alarm was activated at the service station and police officers quickly responded to the scene.

Two men allegedly fled when police arrived, leaving behind a bag stuffed with cigarettes.

With the help of dog squad officers men aged 29 and 41 were soon arrested nearby.

“The premises has been entered and there was a large quantity of cigarettes packed in a bag ready to go,” Chief Supt Hanlon said.

“We’ve seized them and we’ve seized the vehicle and those persons of interest are still being interviewed today.”

No charges have yet been laid in relation to the Miami incident.
