Four more teenage boys have been charged over a dramatic M1 crash that caused chaos for commuters returning to the Gold Coast from Brisbane on Thursday.

The four were found by detectives at an address in Tamborine on Friday after allegedly fleeing when a stolen Mazda Cx5 crashed into a Mini Cooper S on the motorway at about 4.40pm on Thursday.

Three 16-year-old boys from Marsden, Waterford and Meadowbrook have all been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 15-year-old North Booval boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The North Booval boy was remanded in custody while the others were granted police bail.

All four boys will appear before the Southport Children’s Court at a later date.

They join two other teenagers already charged after being arrested at the scene of the accident, which took place near Exit 49 in Pimpama.

The pair, a 15-year-old from Logan and a 16-year-old from Tanah Merah, suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

The Logan boy was charged with burglary, stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The Tanah Merah boy was also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Both were granted police bail ahead of appearing in Southport Children’s Court at a later date.

The incident resulted in three out of four southbound lanes on the M1 being closed on Thursday as the evening rush hour hit its peak.

The chaos saw traffic snake back along the M1 towards Brisbane until the lanes were reopened by police shortly after 6pm.

Georgia Clegg drove through the crash scene shortly after it happened, saying a group of juveniles ran in front of her car.

“I only drove past as I was merging onto the M1 and had to suddenly stop for a few kids running across the highway as they ran in front of my car,” Ms Clegg said.

“I could see the crash and an argument in the middle of the highway but I was too afraid to get out of the car and there were cars behind me so I decided to keep going.

“I assumed the children at fault and an older gentleman (were arguing).

“I couldn’t see too much because I was trying to avoid hitting any more kids running across the road.

“It was so dangerous and it could’ve been a lot worse.”

A 56-year-old woman who was driving the Mini Cooper S received minor injuries from the crash and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition suffering chest pains.

The Mazda police say the teens were travelling in was allegedly stolen from Cape Martin Lane in Varsity Lakes just before midnight on the night before the accident.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
