A popular Portuguese-themed fast-food restaurant has opened a new Gold Coast store and it’s giving away free burgers to celebrate.
Gold Coast couple and franchisees Geoff Bassett and Nicole Skjaerbaek said they would be marking the launch of their second Oporto restaurant by giving away 500 free burgers on Saturday.
The Robina store first debuted on November 11 in new shopping precinct Home Hub and Ms Skjaerbaek said they’d been welcomed by the community with open arms.
“Robina is close to our home — it’s a fantastic suburb of the Gold Coast with plenty to offer,” Ms Skjaerbaek said.
“The community feedback has been fantastic since opening.”
Ms Skjaerbaek said, after 20 years working in the hospitality industry all over the world, the couple moved from Childers to the Gold Coast in 2020 and fell in love with the lifestyle.
“We thought it would be great to open a business that reflects the Gold Coast’s way of life and really believed Oporto represents this... beach, family, friends and good food,” Mr Bassett said.
The duo said Gold Coasters had been salivating over the return of the $10.95 loaded garlic rappa, which would be scrapped from the menu again in March.
The pulled chicken loaded chips and Bondi burger were other best sellers.
Oporto Robina will serve 500 free burgers from noon on Saturday.
