A popular northern Gold Coast school has held a special Commissioning Service to welcome its new principal, who is only the second to be appointed in its 26-year history.
Patrick Innes-Hill said he was “excited” to take the reins at Coomera Anglican College from foundation principal Dr Mark Sly, who retired at the end of last year after leading the school since its inception in 1996.
“I feel deeply privileged to be taking on the role of Principal of Coomera Anglican College,” Mr Innes-Hill said.
“It is an amazing school with still more potential, and I am extremely excited to be able to be part of the next chapter in this unique school’s development.”
Innes-Hill was formerly principal at Emmanuel and Josiah Colleges on the Gold Coast and, most recently, was Head of Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School in Byron Bay.
Speaking at the ceremony, which was attended by senior clergy, local politicians and principals from other schools including AB Paterson College, Trinity Lutheran College and St Hilda’s School, Mr Innes-Hill said his vision was for a school that helped nurture young people who made a difference in the world.
“I’ve been asked what is your vision. Often that question is focused on buildings and programs and ways to study, better outcomes and better results. Those things really excite me,” Mr Innes-Hill said.
“However what excites me even more is achieving all of those things whilst also creating a community characterised by values including .... goodness, servant-heartedness, joy, hope, patience, sharing, hospitality, harmony and love.
“.. According to research, not only are these qualities essential to build a better, more just and more inclusive society, but these qualities are also exactly what are needed to increase results any further.
“This college is already well on its way. It’s a win win, a vision for great results, truly flourishing people, who then make the world a better place.”
