CHILDREN have been left devastated by the sudden closure of a cheerleading club claiming to be the “number one competitive cheer, tumble and dance club” on the Northern Gold Coast.

The parents received a message from Neon All Stars owner and coach Letitia Fox late on Tuesday afternoon informing them the Coomera club was shutting its doors.

“It is with great sadness I announce that NEON All Stars is closing down and will no longer be commencing the 2023 in season,” the message read.

“This has been an extremely hard decision to make but is due to financial reasons, coach shortages, a lack of available childcare and the rising cost of living for both our owner Letty and our customers.

“There is a lot of change happening in the community and in the sport of cheerleading which is making things increasingly hard and isn’t showing signs of improvement anytime soon.

“I thought it best to let all our members know and close down as soon as possible so that full refunds can be given to everyone who has paid so far.

“I am so sorry for the disappointment and I am very grateful for all our awesome athletes and families and wish you all the best.”

One mother told the Bulletin they received the message at approximately 3.30pm – just 90 minutes before her daughter was due to attend her first session at the club.

“She was really disappointed. She had been practising her little moves all week,” the mum said.

“Her jaw just dropped when she heard.”

The mother said she had signed her daughter up at a free trial last week and had intended paying an invoice worth hundreds of dollars, but had yet to do so.

“I was about to pay it when I got the text saying they were shutting down,” she said.

“It’s just lucky I forgot.”

Another parent on social media said she had arrived at the studio on Tuesday to find the doors locked after also signing up at a free trial last week.

“My daughter went for her trial last week and was devastated this afternoon to see the doors all locked up,” she said. “We hadn’t paid any fees yet but feel for the kiddies.”

Other parents told the Bulletin they had paid hundreds of dollars in fees which they were now seeking to have refunded.

Neon All Stars was based at a premises on Louis Court in Coomera, near Exit 54 and the Westfield shopping centre. It was previously based at Siganto Drive in Helensvale.

Ms Fox, a former Griffith student who established a team at the university, also operates businesses Tumble Star Australia and PRO Tumble, selling specialist gymnastics mats and other accessories.

On its website, Tumble Star is described as “the leading air equipment supplier in Australia” and as “expanding rapidly worldwide”.

The Gold Coast attempted to reach Ms Fox for comment but she did not reply by deadline.
