The 16-year-old – who has only been playing guitar for two years – couldn’t believe his luck when he caught the attention of the famous Australian artist.

A Gold Coast teenager has enjoyed a spine-tingling moment in the spotlight, performing for a huge crowd alongside an Australian music legend.

Nash Cowan, 16, couldn’t quite believe his luck when he caught the attention of rapper and singer-songwriter The Kid Laroi, who invited him on stage at his Gold Coast gig on Monday night.

The aspiring musician described playing guitar for more than 4300 people on HOTA’s outdoor stage as a proper pinch-me moment.

“I’m 16 — I’ve only been playing guitar for two years,” he said.

With gathering storms set to rain on his parade and fans queuing around the arts precinct as early as 10am, Mr Cowan had his work cut out attracting the artist’s attention.

“I had a sign, but security told me if I used it I’d get kicked out, so I had to yell,” he said.

“(The sign) said ‘Could I please play Bleed on guitar?’.

“It’s crazy, I can’t believe it. I played Bleed — it’s my favourite song.”

Asked if he wanted to follow in The Kid Laroi’s famous footsteps, the budding guitarist couldn’t contain his enthusiasm.

“He’s such a cool guy. So humble. Of course, 100 per cent,” he said.

The Kid Laroi — whose speed dial includes the likes of Justin Bieber — has embraced his Australian tour stops as a homecoming after international success.

“I want to say I kind of love the Gold Coast,” he told the crowd on Monday night.

“I spent a couple of days here and in Brisbane back and forth. It’s not a place I went a whole bunch growing up.”

“Last time we came back home was about two years ago and the energy was like something I’ve never experienced still to this day.

“And we never actually got to do the Gold Coast last time, so I need to see what you guys are about tonight.

“I just want to say, I’m so f**cking happy to be home and I hope you guys are feeling the same way now that I’m back.”
