A Gold Coast cafe known for its pork and buffalo bowls has had a major facelift to celebrate 10 years of trading.

Over the past several months, Mudjira Village Eatery in Mudgeeraba was renovated and owner Kate Bennet said it was crucial to help them stay “fresh, relevant and ahead of the curve”.

“We’ve completely refreshed the space with a brighter, more modern look – cleaner lines, fresh finishes, a more open layout – but it still feels like Mudjira,” she said.

“The heart hasn’t changed, just the setting.”

The Mudgeeraba cafe first opened in 2015 and Ms Bennet said it was a “surreal” feeling to be getting ready to celebrate 10 years on the Gold Coast.

“It’s been challenging at times, but it’s still my favourite job I’ve ever had,” she said.

Ms Bennet said they had seen a gap in the market in 2015 and pounced at the opportunity to open a cafe.

“We had a vision to bring something fresh and exciting to a beautiful little shopping centre just around the corner from home,” she said.

Over the past decade, Ms Bennet faced numerous challenges including Covid-19, staff shortages and the cost of living crisis’ impact on trade.

“Covid was terrible. We had to let go most of our staff,” she said.

“I worked eight days straight in the kitchen, while my manager was on the coffee machine.

“We printed off a limited menu and had a handful of staff who simply refused to give up.

“They wouldn’t let us close, and neither would our community. Without that, we wouldn’t have made it through.”

Ms Bennet said their “true hidden gem” was popular for their Korean pork bowls, buffalo bowls, housemate crunchy chilli oil and their clean protein snickers.

To celebrate the renovation, Ms Bennet said they will have food, drinks, live music and gift bags up for grabs on July 17 from 5pm to 7pm.

“There’s a reason we’ve been here for ten years and continue to grow – and we know that anyone who visits will understand why we’re a Mudgeeraba staple and an absolute must-visit on the Gold Coast.”
