A man allegedly involved in a dispute in which another man was stabbed in the back with a screwdriver has said he will “100 per cent” fight the charges.

Maninder Singh Aujla was the final of three co-accused to face court in relation to the alleged stabbing in Southport last month.

It is alleged he was one of three people involved in a disturbance on Prince St, Southport that drew police attention at about 9pm on August 22.

It is alleged the dispute over rent money erupted when the man accused of the stabbing – later identified as 35-year-old Karanveer Singh – returned to the house with two others to recover vapes and a toothbrush.

A 27-year-old man was found with a wound in his back and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical but stable condition. A 65-year-old man was also transported to hospital in a stable condition with facial injuries.

Police allege Mr Aujla and his two co-accused left the scene in a Mazda BT-50 – allegedly stolen from a Bilinga address weeks earlier – before officers arrived.

Mr Aujla’s case was briefly mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, where it was adjourned for him to seek legal advice.

When asked about the charges outside the courthouse, Mr Aujla denied assaulting anyone and said he “100 per cent” planned to fight the charges.

“All of a sudden I’m a criminal, all of a sudden everything looks bad on me … it’s affecting my life,” he said.

Mr Aujla remains on bail and is due to return to court on October 8.

The cases for Mr Singh and their other co-accused, 55-year-old Troy Clothier, are listed for mention later this month.
