Five luxury European cars have been recovered after police caught one of the alleged thieves with the keys during a wanding blitz at an Ipswich shopping centre.

Two people have been charged after five luxury cars were allegedly stolen from a northern Gold Coast.

Police were conducting a wanding exercise at an Ipswich shopping centre on November 27 when a teenage boy allegedly ran away from officers when they tried to search him.

The boy was found nearby and taken into custody.

Police allegedly discovered several sets of car keys and drugs in his possession.

Further investigations by detectives from the Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch found the keys were linked to an alleged theft of five luxury vehicles from an address on Coomera St in Helensvale on November 23.

The cars included 2019 Mercedes Benz E220, a 2023 Mercedes Benz G63, a 2017 Porsche Cayenne, a 2024 Mercedes Benz E300 and a 2024 Mercedes Benz GL300.

All five vehicles were found in Logan.

A 17-year-old boy from Mutdapilly has been charged with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of enter a dwelling and commit, and one count each of enter and commit an indictable offence, attempting to enter a dwelling with intent at night while armed in company, face marking with intent to commit indictable offence, possessing dangerous drugs and obstructing police

He will front the Ipswich Children’s Court on January 12.

Detectives also arrested a 22-year-old man from Forrest Hill at an address on The Terrace in North Ipswich on November 27.

He has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence and one count each of receiving tainted goods, stealing, trespass and possessing dangerous drugs.

He will front Richlands Magistrates Court on January 23.

Police are continuing their investigations into the alleged incident.
