A minor and her mother have been left feeling “sick” after a man allegedly masturbated in front of the 15-year-old on a public bus.

The young girl was on her way to school on Wednesday morning when the man was positioned on his back, on the back seat of the bus, allegedly masturbating just after 9am.

Quick thinking, the girl managed to snap a picture, sending it straight to her mother.

The mother said her daughter felt “sick,” with the matter reported to both the police and the bus line.

“She feels sick about it,” the mother told The Bulletin.

“As a mother, I feel absolutely disgusted and appalled by what (allegedly) happened to my daughter. It’s difficult to put into words – it’s a mix of anger, shock, and deep concern.”

The mother said her priority was to ensure her daughter’s safety and that of others.

“The police have visited my daughter at school regarding the incident and will update me as their investigation progresses,” the mother said.

“I hope they can locate this man quickly.”

Kinetic executive general manager Martin Hall said the driver of this particular service was unaware of the incident as it wasn’t reported at the time.

“While we are unaware of the specific circumstances surrounding the incident or the individual, the behaviour reported and depicted is unacceptable and does not align with the standards of safety, comfort, and respect that we expect on our buses,” he said.

Mr Hall said Kinetic encourage anyone who notices anti-social behaviour on their buses to report it to the bus driver if they feel safe to do so.

A spokesperson for Queensland Police Service said detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit have since charged a 30-year-old man following the alleged indecent incident.

The man has been charged with one count of committing an indecent act in any place to which the public are permitted to access.

He will appear at Southport Magistrates Court on April 16.
