The father of a Gold Coast woman who survived being blasted in the back by a shotgun has revealed it missed her heart and spine but “sadly that’s where the good news ends”.

Brian Anyos revealed his daughter Linley Anne Anyos, 33, suffered “catastrophic injuries to her torso” after being shot sitting in a car passenger seat earlier this month.

After the shooting at Tallebudgera on January 8, she spent seven days in an induced coma in the intensive care unit at Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Mr Anyos of Upper Coomera, has started a GoFundMe to assist with ongoing and life-changing medical expenses Ms Anyos and her family will now face.

“Somebody slid into the back seat behind her and without warning discharged a sawn-off shotgun and that shot has changed Linley’s life forever,” he wrote.

“Linley suffered catastrophic injuries to her torso, and the two things we can be grateful for is her spine was missed, her heart was missed - and sadly that’s where the good news ends.”

Mr Anyos revealed she had extensive trauma to her stomach and was “lucky” to be alive.

“After seven days in an induced coma, we woke Linley,” he wrote. “That is where the real pain struck her, not understanding where she was, why she was there or even what day it was anymore.”

He said she suffered subsequent concerns for her brain and mental wellbeing.

“Linley has endured many hours of surgery to get to where she is today,” Mr Anyos said.

“We now have a life of ongoing surgical interventions.”

Mr Anyos said it was “lucky” an ambulance was one minute around the corner, that a good Samaritan jumped to his daughter’s aide and “lucky” a man was able to “control the scene” to provide her with initial care.

A 47-year-old man described by police as a “person of interest” in relation the shooting was arrested interstate after a significant police operation in unrelated matter two weeks ago.

At the time, Gold Coast Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said the man was arrested on unrelated weapons charges in Victoria - and if convicted interstate could be there in custody for “years”. Police were still investigating if the double-barrel shotgun believed to be involved in the Linley Anyos shooting was fired deliberately or went off accidentally.
