It comes as a Surfers Paradise woman revealed the reality of living in one of the city’s noisiest suburbs.
She said her neighbour’s habit of playing “loud and disrespectful” music every day for the past six months was starting to affect her mental health.
The woman posted a video snippet of her noisy neighbour to social media asking for the community’s advice on how to handle the matter.
“This has been going since 9am and happens every single day – sometimes until about 10pm or later. It’s been happening for over six months,” she said.
“It’s really getting to the point where it’s affecting my mental health badly.
“There seems to be no peace on this island anymore.”
Often, noisy neighbours are a minor nuisance that can easily fixed with a simple note or door knock.
But where do you turn when it becomes an unbearable problem?
The Bulletin posed this question to police and Gold Coast City Council.
Both referred our questions to online resources, including a Queensland government fact sheet.
It explained that different organisations were responsible for certain noise complaints.
Loud music and parties, hoons, burnouts or street racing are a police matter and can be reported online.
If the noise you are hearing involves domestic or other violence, you should call triple zero.
It is suggested you should speak with your neighbour if the noise problem relates to a barking or noisy dog.
If that doesn’t work, a complaint can be made to Gold Coast City Council online.
If necessary, an abatement notice can be issued to the dog’s owner.
And if they don’t comply with the notice, they can be fined.
Other noise complaints related to air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, amplifier devices, construction, commercial boarding kennels, indoor venues, industrial activities and open-air events can also be reported to the council online.
