A Biggera Waters cheerleading gym is living a dream after being the first team in Australia to win the World Championships on Sunday.

Gold Coast’s Inspire Athletics club team Fame 5 have won the cheerleading World Championships.

Gemma Willcock, Journey Hipwood and Brianna Toms are members of Level 5 Inspire the first team in Australia to win the World Championships

Fame 5 base Journey Hipwood said after 10 years of cheerleading she never thought she would win the World Championships.

“There are no words to describe how it feels,” she said. “It has been a dream of everyone’s for a very long time and we can finally say we have done it.

“Our pyramid is definitely one of the highlights of our routine.

“It took us a long time to nail it but was amazing to see all our hard work pay off,” Ms Hipwood said.

A Biggera Waters cheerleading gym is ‘living a dream’ after being the first team in Australia to win the World Championships on Sunday.

Fame 5 coach Matt Darnett said he was grateful his team got recognised as elite on the world stage: “I’ve experienced what it is like to achieve such a coveted goal with 16 of my best friends. The future of cheerleading is an exciting prospect as I think I may see some of my athletes competing for Australia at the Olympics.”
