Police have charged a man who allegedly tried – and failed – to rob a southern Gold Coast surf shop at knifepoint.

POLICE have charged a man who allegedly tried – and failed – to rob a southern Gold Coast surf shop at knifepoint.

Gold Coast police allege the 21-year-old entered Kirra Surf on Creek St and “produced a knife” from a shopping bag about 1pm on Sunday.

“It is alleged the man made demands for money from the 46-year-old male staff member and moved around the counter to attempt to access the register himself which was unsuccessful,” a police spokeswoman said.

“He then fled the store without gaining any cash.”

Police tracked down and charged the 21-year-old with two counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

Men trapped under collapsed wall in workplace accident

October 12: Two men are at the centre of a workplace safety investigation after they were injured in a wall collapse at a Tweed Heads construction site.

The pair – one aged in his 20s and the other aged 19 – became trapped under a pile of rubble after a wall collapsed during a demolition-gone-wrong last week.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics, including a critical care unit, were tasked to the scene at Wharf St about 1.15pm Friday.

The older male was in a stable condition and suffered injuries to his head, chest and shoulder, while the teen sustained head injuries that left him in a serious condition.

They were transported by road to Gold Coast University Hospital.

A SafeWork NSW spokesperson said officials were investigating the incident: “SafeWork NSW issued one prohibition notice and one improvement notice. SafeWork’s investigation is ongoing and further comment is not available at this time.”

Man critical after motorbike crash on Gold Coast

September 27: A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition following a crash with another vehicle on the Gold Coast.

The incident on Stapylton Jacobs Well Rd in Stapylton occurred about 2.30pm, with paramedics rushing the man to Gold Coast University Hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the man’s injuries are uncertain but Critical Care and the High Acuity Response Unit helped take the patient to hospital.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said four crews attended the scene.

Motorcyclist dies after smashing into tree

September 25: A motorcyclist has died after smashing into a tree at a private property on the northern Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the incident after reports a dirt bike crashed into a tree on a private property at Coomera just after 8am on Saturday.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed a man aged in his 20s died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit has been advised of the incident.

Two trucks roll on Gold Coast

September 23: Two trucks have been involved in separate rollovers in Yatala, only hours a part.

The first occurred on Darlington Rd and Sandy Creek Rd at about 10.50am, following cement truck rear ending a car.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the man driving the truck was trapped in the vehicle until 12.03pm, when emergency crews freed him.

All lanes on the roads were blocked from the incident but were reopened by police about 12.30pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said two people were assessed at the scene by paramedics.

The driver of the truck was transported in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital with a leg injury.

While a woman, who was driving the car involved in the crash, declined transport.

At 12.13pm another rollover occurred on Pearson Rd.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the driver declined transport to hospital.

Coast woman charged after allegedly ramming police vehicle

September 22: A Pacific Pines woman has been charged by police after she allegedly stole a car in Brisbane before ramming a police vehicle on the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning.

A white 2020 BMW hatchback and a white 2017 BMW coupe were allegedly stolen from an address at Hawken Dr, St Lucia between midnight and 2am on Wednesday.

About 8.20am, police tracked the 2020 BMW hatchback travelling eastbound on Ashmore Rd in Bundall.

Queensland Police alleged the driver deliberately collided with a marked police vehicle before fleeing the scene.

No one was injured during this incident.

Around 9.30am, the hatchback was again tracked, this time at the intersection of Archipelago St and Penrhyn St in Pacific Pines.

Police then used a tyre deflation device and the car came to a halt about 1km down the road at Corai Close, Pacific Pines.

A woman allegedly then exited the vehicle on foot and was arrested by officers in a nearby park shortly after.

A 20-year-old Pacific Pines woman has been charged with one count each of burglary, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

She is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on October 5.

Neighbours rescue Coast woman who drove car into pool

September 22: A Southport woman was rescued by her neighbours after she drove her car into a pool on the Gold Coast.

A Queensland Police spokesman said on Monday night a 44-year-old woman was asked to move her car in a driveway at a Nerang property by a local resident.

At about 6pm she got in her Holden Captiva to move it forward, while leaving the driver’s side door open.

When the woman was driving, the open door slammed on her leg and forced her to accelerate the car.

The Holden Captiva took off and went into the pool.

Neighbours were able to help the woman escape from the car before emergency services arrived at the Eureka St property.

The woman sustained minor injuries to her right leg and was not admitted to hospital.

The car was later towed from the pool.

Coast theft victim blasts ‘teenage losers’ for stealing car

September 20: A Gold Coast woman has slammed a group of “teenage losers” after her car was stolen from her home, saying the thieves had managed to switch off its tracker.

Melissa Watts issued a plea for help on Facebook urging others to be on the lookout for her silver BMW, alleging four “teenage losers” had taken it at 4.30am Sunday.

Police said the car with rego of 637XSR was stolen from Marina Cres, Hollywell, with early investigations indicating the car was unlocked.

“A car remote was also taken from another vehicle which was also unlocked in order to open the gate to exit the complex,” a police spokeswoman said.

Ms Watts said the thieves had “switched off the (car) tracker so can’t track it”.

“Oh and share the f*** out of this post please,” she added.

The car is still missing.
