Police investigating fatal run down Nerang Murwillumbah Rd at Numinbah Valley

A MOTORCYCLIST has been struck and killed on the Gold Coast as police investigate as a possible prison love triangle gone wrong.

The man, 28, was struck and killed while riding a motorbike on Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd at Natural Bridge in the Numinbah Valley just after 10am Friday.

Preliminary information indicates the man was involved in a verbal altercation with two men outside the Numinbah Correctional Centre.

The man, from Bracalba, then left on his motorcycle and rode southbound along Nerang Murwillumbah Rd for approximately three kilometres where he crashed.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.

Police are understood to be investigating if the dead motorcyclist was the ex-partner of a woman who was being released from the Numinbah Correctional Centre on Friday morning.

They are looking at whether the woman’s current partner also turned up at the prison farm shortly prior to the crash

A crime scene has been declared as police investigate the circumstances of the crash.

The road has been closed and police are asking people to avoid the area.

The Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch and Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious – or anyone with dash-camera vision – along Nerang Murwillumbah Road in the vicinity of Numinbah Valley and Natural Bridge between 9.30am and 10.30am, to come forward.

Police are investigating a man’s death on the Gold Coast following a fatal traffic crash in Numinbah Valley.

The Bracalba man, 28, was allegedly run down and killed in what police are investigating as a possible crime of passion.

It comes as police revealed the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with two men outside a correctional facility on Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd just after 10am.

It is understood he then boarded a motorcycle, travelling southbound for about three kilometres when he was struck by a vehicle.

Paramedics, including a critical care unit, were called to Nerang Murwillumbah Rd at Natural Bridge just after 10.15am Friday morning.

The man sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said a crime scene was declared to determine whether the man was deliberately run down, with the road closed to traffic in both directions.

Anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious or is in possession of dash-camera footage is urged to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
