‘Whole world’s laughing at it’: Australians ‘bullied into silence’ on Raygun’s Olympic performance

One of the Gold Coast’s newest dance schools has been named the city’s best.

Molendinar’s Dance Headquarters secured 27 per cent of the Bulletin reader-voted poll, with owner Kerene Guest saying she was “thrilled” with the accolade, awarded only eight months after opening her first studio.

Ms Guest took over ownership of her mother’s 30-year-old studio, Triple Talent, at the end of last year.

“It has always been a dream of mine (to open a dance studio),” she said.

“It’s in my bloodline.

“Growing up in a performing arts family and dancing in our own studio, I wanted to create something as special and impactful as what I experienced.”

Ms Guest said she started dancing when she was two-years-old and had “achieved a lot of goals at a young age”.

She was offered a full scholarship at Australia’s premiere full-time performing arts academy ED5 International when she was 15-years-old and has since performed with artists including Guy Sebastian, Neil Young and more.

“The love and support you get from being a studio owner from students and parents is like going to work every day knowing you have an army behind you,” she said.

Ms Guest said Dance Headquarters’ motto was to provide a friendly, supportive and dynamic environment.

“I want to build more than just a dance studio but a community for my students to grow and thrive,” she said.

Ms Guest offers classes in jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, acrobatics, contortion, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, hand balancing, aerial silks and Lyra.

NAPA was runner-up for the Gold Coast’s best dance school with 13 per cent of the vote, Dance Mafia was third with 11 per cent, Launch Performance Art Centre was fourth with eight per cent and Chadwick Studios was fifth with six per cent.
