Distraught Queensland family’s search for ‘stolen’ therapy dog Ruby

It’s the million dollar question: where is Ruby? A family is appealing for the Gold Coast community’s help to reunite them with their dog, which went missing under suspicious circumstances.

A devastated mother and daughter are appealing for the community’s help to find their therapy dog - which they claim was stolen from them and illegally rehomed.

Christie Jones said an acquaintance living in the Gold Coast’s northern suburbs offered to look after Ruby the dog while she spent two days in hospital in February.

Christie said when she checked out of hospital, the woman had blocked her on all forms of communication.

Despite several attempts to retrieve the dog, that was the last time she saw Ruby.

Christie’s mum Jean Jones described the situation as “heartbreaking”.

“They had a special bond,” she said.

Christie added: “I don’t understand how someone could do something so horrible.”

The family reported the incident to police and have since launched a social media campaign in a bid to bring Ruby home.

“That’s the million dollar question - where is she?” Christie said.

“We’ve tried to look everywhere. People have been trying to help.

“There have been reported sightings - one at Benowa and one at Holland Park.”

The mother and daughter believe eight-year-old Ruby has been rehomed somewhere on the Gold Coast, but say she could be anywhere in southeast Queensland.

“Please keep a look out,” a distraught Christie said.

“If you know someone has her, tell us.”

Ruby is microchipped, has a blonde “mohawk” at the front of her head and a limp on her front right leg.
