A person claiming to be a close friend of a Surfers Paradise identity who has not been seen in public for six weeks says the local icon is in “good spirits”.
Earlier this week it was reported concerns were growing for David Buncombe, better known as Princess, with many questioning his whereabouts after he was taken to hospital in early March.
A missing persons report has not been filed with police.
Princess is known for rocking a pink bikini and lives on the bustling streets of Surfers.
A person who described themselves as being friends with Princess for more than 15 years wrote to the Bulletin on Tuesday with an update.
“David has been in the Gold Coast Hospital for several weeks now with a serious infection in his foot. He is out of the hospital now, however, he is still not out of the woods,” they said.
“Treatment is still ongoing with hospital visits every few days.”
They said Princess was in “good spirits” but still restricted to having his “feet up all day”.
“He probably won’t be seen in Surfers Paradise for some time yet,” the friend said.
“He is very thankful to friends who have been concerned and wants to say thank you to everyone and (is) hoping to to be back in town very soon.”
Earlier this year, Princess was named in the Bulletin’s list of top 10 cult figures.
