Byron Bay Bluesfest announces it will end for good after 35 years

Hey now, Australian rock legends Crowded House have been announced as headliners of the last ever Byron Bay Bluesfest, where festival fans will have no choice but to dream it’s over.

The veteran band, fronted by Neil Finn will be joined by Vance Joy, Ocean Alley, local legend Tones and I and Grammy-winning Blues star Gary Clark Jr.

Rag’n’Bone Man, Allison Russell, Christine ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, Brad Cox and Here Come The Mummies and The California Honeydrops, Marc Broussard, Pierce Brothers, Taj Farrant, Fanny Lumsden, 19-Twenty, WILSN, Cimafunk and Neal Francis are also on the bill so far, with more acts to be announced.

The lineup announcement comes a week after festival founder Peter Noble, who owns the land where the festival is staged, revealed the 2025 festival would be the last, without giving a reason.

He said the four-day festival would be the “last chance to experience the magic, the music, and the memories that have made Bluesfest a beloved institution”.

Announcing the lineup this week, Mr Noble said he’d been inundated with support.

“This is just the beginning of an absolutely stacked lineup,” he said in a statement.

“We’re announcing these incredible artists today, but there’s so much more to come, as we are already finalising our second artist announcement.

“Join us for the final Bluesfest – this is going to be a festival that will be remembered for decades to come.”
