Beau Maher: Charge dropped against NSW cop accused of assaulting woman at Star casino

The case against a NSW police officer accused of slapping the bottom of a female patron at The Star Gold Coast casino has been dismissed.

However NSW Police have confirmed his employment status remains “under review”.

It was alleged the 38-year-old assaulted the woman at The Star Gold Coast in Broadbeach on February 5.

Police prosecutions offered no evidence to the single charge during a mention in Southport Magistrates Court last month.

His lawyers had asked at a previous appearance for the case to be sent to justice mediation, after an earlier written plea of guilty was declined.

It was previously reported that Sergeant Maher was on the Gold Coast working on an operation involving racing identity and former brothel owner Eddie Hayson.

Mr Hayson was extradited from the Gold Coast to NSW on serious drug charges, with police alleging at the time that he and another man were involved in transporting $5m worth of drugs from Sydney to Perth last year.

Sergeant Maher’s employment status was first reported as being under review in April.
