Two rising Gold Coast Muay Thai fighters say they are pumped to take on two Thailand luminaries in what’s being billed as one of the best kickboxing fight cards on the Glitter Strip.

James ‘Sweet As’ Honey, 28, out of Strike Force Muay Thai, is headlining the latest Alliance Fight Promotion card at Dreamworld’s function centre this Saturday against Thai legend KongThailand, with ringside tables already sold out.

Muay Thai afficianados say it’s one of the best fight card line ups Australia has seen.

Honey, the World Muay Thai Organisation number one and World Boxing Commission number two for middleweights, said KongThailand was “top of the food chain in most people’s books - mine as well”.

“He has not lost to an Australian. It’s another big stepping stone, another big name to tick off the list as I aim for a world title.”

It will be his first Dreamworld fight at home: “It’s not very often we get to fight on the Gold Coast, so it will be good to have a home crowd.”

Modern Warrior Muay Thai fighter Andy Juniku said he would describe his Thailand opponent Rodlek as “the boss fight of my career”.

“He has fought all the legends and gone toe to toe with them. But I can’t let that worry me - I feel pumped. And having the crowd behind you does make a difference - that aura pushes you.”

Asked what he likes most about Muay Thai, Juniku said: “I enjoy that it puts you in another category from other people. All my friends go out drinking - and I will join them out every now and then. But eight weeks out, you are away from everyone, focused, and I like that whole eight weeks of sacrifice.”

Standing and outer seats are still available for the 13-bout event.
