Gold Coast media personality Bianca Dye says the online dating scene is getting worse — and she’s got some war stories to tell.
The radio star, who has been moonlighting on interstate airwaves after her controversial exit from the SeaFM breakfast show, reveals she’s had plenty of speed bumps on her road to romance, including being catfished.
“I’m on two dating apps and some of the stories, oh my god,” she said.
“I get catfished a lot by people pretending to be people that they’re not, which is just so embarrassing.
“Imagine doing that. I mean that is just not a normal person.
“The most recent guy … my girlfriend always does a deep dive for me. I’ll send her the photo and the name and she just has this amazing way of playing detective.
“She sent back a screenshot of this guy and his Facebook page actually said he’s in a relationship.
“I just approached him straight away and I was like, ‘Dude, this is not cool’. He said ‘I met a yoga teacher on a trip and we spent five days together’ so now they’re in a relationship after five days together.
“I told him he can’t be on the dating app and be hinting at going out on a date with me and wanting to get to know me when he’s in a relationship.”
Dye will host The Star Gold Coast’s White and Gold Singles Party later this month, hoping to help Gold Coasters form real-life connections — and maybe even meet her own match.
“The idea of being surrounded by hundreds of local singles all looking for love sounds like heaven to me,” she said.
“You’ll be seated at big tables where there won’t be any pressure, you can flirt and suss them out, but it won’t be like staring at each other, like speed dating.
“I might even find love.”
The White and Gold Singles Party is on February 22 at The Star Gold Coast. It is an 18+ event with tickets on sale now at $195 per person.
