Fight at Sacred Heart College Geelong

Police were called after a student was brutally attacked at a Geelong Catholic girls’ school on pupils’ first day back.

Video has emerged of the violent assault, which took place on Tuesday at Sacred Heart College Geelong.

The footage, believed to be circulating on social media, shows a person dressed in all black punching another person multiple times at the private school.

The victim is believed to be a Sacred Heart student, seen wearing a uniform in the footage.

In the video the person in black, believed to have attended government school Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College, is heard to say “Who the f--- do you think you are c---?”.

Victoria Police said it was investigating an alleged assault which occurred at a school in Newtown.

“All parties involved have been spoken to and the investigation is ongoing,” a spokesman a said.

Matthew Flinders’ campus is within walking distance of Sacred Heart College’s Newtown campus.

The assault occurred in view of other Sacred Heart students, seen in uniform, gathered around in front of blue lockers.

In an email sent to parents on the day of the incident, Sacred Heart principal Anna Negro said the incident happened during lunch time on school grounds.

“A student from a Geelong secondary school entered the college site and physically assaulted one of our students,” Ms Negro said.

“The situation was managed by the staff who were on duty.

“Police were then called.

“The young person was seen to by our first aid officer and then accompanied home by their parent.”

Ms Negro said she was grateful for the “quick response”, and for the “care and concern” shown by staff and by attending police officers.

“All students who witnessed the incident have been provided support and their families contacted by phone by the appropriate house leader,” she said.

“Should your child raise any concerns regarding this matter please contact their house leader.

“Please rest assured that child safety is paramount at Sacred Heart College.”

Ms Negro initially said in the email that the two girls were known to each other but the Geelong Advertiser understands this was not the case.

When asked about punishments or ramifications resulting from the incident the Department of Education did not specify action taken by the Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College.

“Any form of bullying or violence is completely unacceptable,” a department spokesman said.

“The school investigates all reported incidents and provides full support for any student that has been affected.”

It’s understood it is up to the school to take appropriate disciplinary action in relation to any student involved in perpetrating school related bullying or violence, and to notify the police of any incidents where appropriate.

It comes as a string of criminal offences were recorded in Geelong schools last year, including an incident at Geelong High School, where a 13-year-old year 8 student was allegedly assaulted.

Video footage was allegedly shared on Snapchat.

Police cautioned a 12-year-old girl for unlawful assault in relation to the schoolyard incident.
