Two activists accused of a bomb scare at a busy North Geelong office precinct will fight the charges.

Victoria Sorensen and Jamie Jeffrey appeared in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a brief mention before Magistrate Simon Guthrie, charged with intending to cause a bomb hoax and trespassing.

The duo was charged following an alleged bomb scare at the North Geelong offices of the Aerospace Maritime Defence Australia (AMDA), the organisation that runs the Avalon Airshow.

Police were called to the organisation’s Federal Mills office at about 9.40am on March 21 after reports a suspicious package had been left in the building by two women.

It’s alleged Ms Sorensen and Ms Jeffrey were chanting and filming while delivering the package, which prompted a large emergency response at the scene, including Victoria Police’s bomb squad.

Following the incident, Victoria Police confirmed a 52-year-old Grovedale woman and a 61-year-old Geelong West woman had been arrested and charged.

The hearing comes days after the anti-war group Disrupt Wars took to social media to claim the package contained “a pack of lollies”.

“Admittedly, the lollies were Warheads,” Disrupt War’s Instagram post read.

“They are very sour. But not as sour as pretending to be a charity while promoting arms dealers.”

Details of the alleged offending were not aired in open court on Tuesday.

Ms Sorensen was represented by Simon Northeast, while Nisha Patel appeared for Ms Jeffrey.

When the matter was called, Mr Northeast told the court both co-accused were to be adjourned “off for contest mention”, meaning the two women will fight the charges.

A date in July was initially proposed, however the court heard Ms Jeffrey will be overseas for a period of July and August.

The women will reappear in court on August 19. Their bail was extended.
