Surf Coast TV show Surviving Summer hits Netflix

The Surf Coast’s famous beaches will be splashed across television screens when new a teen surf series, Surviving Summer, launches on Netflix next month.
The series stars Sky Katz as Summer Torres – a Brooklyn teenager who has been sent to Australia to live with family friends the Gibsons, in a tiny coastal town on the Great Ocean Road.
Ari Gibson is an introverted but ambitious young surfer returning to competitive surfing after a life-threatening injury.
Summer’s about to spend the next three months falling in love with surfing, driving Ari crazy and up-ending everyone’s lives.

Katz (Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home), who shares the screen with Australia’s Kai Lewins (Wild Boys) and Savannah La Rain (Bosch & Rockit, Content), Brazilian rising star João Gabriel Marinho (Malhação), and five-time Queensland junior and current women’s state surf champion Lilliana ‘Lil’ Bowrey.
Surviving Summer producer Joanna Werner, of Barwon Heads, said she was thrilled audiences finally have the chance to see Surviving Summer.
“We are all so proud of this series, and incredibly grateful to the community of the Surf Coast for embracing the production,” Ms Werner said,
“Locally, we received so much support from the Surf Coast Shire and The Great Ocean Road Authority, Anglesea and Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Clubs, Anglesea Yacht Club and the Go Ride a Wave Surf School, Parks Victoria, Geelong College, local business and of course the amazing residents who allowed us to shoot in their homes, and the community as a whole.
Ms Werner said beaches and surf were the perfect location for filming.
“And we had so many amazing local surfers involved in the show – authenticity was really important for us, to really capture the uniqueness of Australia and surf culture,” she said.
“It is quite mind-blowing to know the series will go out to 222 million people all over the world on Friday.”
Surviving Summer will be released on Netflix on June 3.
