A massive 4500 participants laced up for the sold-out 2024 Geelong Advertiser Run4Geelong on Sunday morning – the largest turnout since Barwon Health has come on board the event.

This year’s Run4Geelong also saw $249,000 raised for the health service, making it the highest participant fundraising total so far.

From families to health heroes, local celebrities to devoted fundraisers, the event brought the Geelong community together in spectacular fashion.

Participants donned the signature red T-shirts and set off across a range of courses designed to suit all ages and abilities.

Zoe Waters, executive director of the Barwon Health Foundation said every dollar from each Run4Geelong registration goes directly to Barwon Health, and participants have the option to direct their funds towards a specific department.

“The support of this year’s sell-out event has been truly overwhelming, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who made this event such a huge success,” Ms Waters said.

“We’re absolutely blown away by the generosity and spirit of the Greater Geelong community.

“To sell out and see just under a quarter of a million dollars raised for Barwon Health is beyond incredible, and it speaks volumes about the heart of this town.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who make Run4Geelong possible.”

Ms Waters said Run4Geelong celebrates health heroes and reminds us of the power of collective community spirit.

The event, which is supported by the Geelong Advertiser and presented by the Barwon Health Foundation, included the Hanlon Industries 10km, Geelong Advertiser 5km, GMHBA 3km, and the Villawood Properties 1km Kids Dash.

In a fun twist, the Bean Squeeze RunPawGeelong category invited furry friends to join the action, with dogs striding alongside their owners.

Among those taking part were community ambassadors, local families, grateful patients, healthcare professionals and even prominent public figures like Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and TV personality Gorgi Coghlan.

Gorgi was joined by her brother, Nigel Rendell, as part of Team Rendell – an inspiring group that has raised a remarkable $50,000 for the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.

Mr Rendell who is currently undergoing treatment for Mantle Cell Cancer at Barwon Health, was once again the event’s top fundraiser, a testament to the incredible impact of this event and the generosity of the community.
