Power in You Project team tackles Great Aussie Hike

Geelong workers who help struggling people are set to further support those with mental health battles by tackling a marathon walk.
Charlemont’s Meike Maarseveen, a mental health co-ordinator at The Power In You Project, has assembled a team to take on the Great Aussie Hike, which is raising funds for suicide prevention service Lifeline Australia, next month.
The Power In You Project is a Geelong not-for-profit that helps people affected by challenges including addiction and adjusting to life after being release from prison.
Ms Maarseveen, who found solace in walking while grieving a loved one, and six of her colleagues will each walk 100km together over two days.
“I’m very excited to be able to do this with the team and make that connection with each other,” she said.
Through their work, the team members have encountered clients who have used Lifeline for crisis support.
Ms Maarseveen’s father will be flying from Holland to Australia to support her while she takes on the hike and welcome her at the finish line.
Participants can opt to tackle the 30km, 43km, 57km or 100km course as a registered team.
There is a share the distance option where people can choose to either take on the entire course or swap sections with teammates.
The Great Aussie Hike will be held on the Mornington Peninsula on March 24 and 25.
