Police make arrest on Surf Coast Highway

Drivers have been left stunned after a police pursuit ended in a crash and arrest on the Surf Coast Highway.

Police arrested a man in Mount Duneed about 9am on Friday after he was pursued from Donnybrook Rd in Norlane in an allegedly stolen vehicle an hour earlier.

The incident shut down all northbound lanes heading into Geelong on the Surf Coast Highway.

The driver, travelling in a white Holden Commodore ute, allegedly reached speeds of more than 150km/h.

He allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road to evade police.

Officers kept their distance during the pursuit, maintaining sight of the ute before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device to bring it to a stop at the intersection of Unity Dr and the highway.

Images reveal significant damage to the front left of the vehicle.

The man was arrested on the scene will be interviewed by police.

Police said investigators believed the ute was stolen from an East Geelong address last week.

Following the arrest, multiple police searched the vehicle, which was full of green plastic bags.

At least six police vehicles were present, and a Victoria Police helicopter was also seen hovering above the scene.

The road reopened on Friday morning.
