Man charged after allegedly smashing doors and windows at Geelong hospital

A Geelong man is facing eight charges of criminal damage after an alleged incident that caused Geelong hospital to go into lockdown.

Geelong hospital went into lockdown on Saturday morning after a man went on an alleged rampage inside the premises.

Police allege a 40-year-old man damaged around 10 windows and doors at the hospital, just after 9.30am

According to a police spokeswoman, “the hospital was placed in lockdown as a precaution.”

Police used pepper spray before arresting the Norlane man who is currently assisting officers with their inquiries.

The man has been charged with eight counts of criminal damage and is expected to face Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday.

A Barwon Health spokesperson said “support has been provided to those impacted by the event.”

“The safety and security of patients, staff and visitors is of utmost importance to Barwon Health.”

“In response to an incident that occurred earlier today areas of the hospital were locked down for a short period of time.”
