A single dad has died suddenly, leaving his two children behind to navigate their lives without him.

Graeme Gould unexpectedly passed away last month and now his eldest son Ash, 21, is stepping into his place to become full time carer of his youngest son, Casey, 13, who has several disabilities.

Liberty Disability Services director Amanda Glasson met Mr Gould in 2016 when Casey first started going to the agency and described him as “the kindest person in the whole world.”

“He was a truck driver with a heart of gold,” she said.

“He would always offer to help and would do anything for anyone.”

Mr Gould was taken to hospital on November 24 after Ash performed CPR on his dad following a medical incident.

His kids spent November 25 by his side in hospital but he sadly passed away later that day surrounded by his partner and sister.

Ms Glasson said Ash and Casey will “have a village around them” with fellow Liberty Disability Services directors Elle Cooper and Kathie Denno and the entire Geelong disability community supporting the boys during this challenging time.

Ash is studying at university full time and now taking on the role of guardian and carer to his brother, is unable to work.

“Ash is amazing, he has taken on all the parental roles and has gone into action mode trying to organise all the funeral paperwork and how,” Ms Glassons said.

Mr Gould had not yet made arrangements for funeral costs so a GoFundMe page has been set up by Liberty Disability Services to help support Ash and Casey during this time and to give their dad the send-off he deserves.

“If this was another way around, Graeme would be the first person to put his hand up and offer help,” Ms Glassons said.
