The Colonel has finally landed in a Bellarine town, much to the delight of a parochial group of KFC fans who have sent social media into meltdown.
More than 40 jobs have been created at a new KFC store in Drysdale after it opened its doors on Tuesday, four months after a Facebook appreciation page popped up in anticipation of its arrival.
The page has more than 1500 followers.
Restaurant general manager Lisa Stanley said she was thrilled to welcome the local KFC enthusiasts to the new store, many who have written tributes celebrating the occasion.
“The short story about KFC Drysdale is a heartwarming tale of a small town’s excitement and anticipation for the opening of a new KFC location,” one follower wrote.
Another said it was “destined for the big screen” and suggested Steven Spielberg direct the film.
“Watching this in movie form with a large Popcorn Chicken and Mountain Dew is on my KFC bucket list.”
The new restaurant is owned and operated by Hosking Group and located at 57-59 Murradoc Rd.
Ms Stanley, who previously managed the North Geelong KFC, said they would be offering delivery of “the Colonel’s delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken” through Uber Eats and Menulog.
“The KFC Drysdale team is delighted to welcome local KFC fans. The new restaurant is a great location for locals and those travelling through town,” she said.
“We’re thrilled to welcome 40 new Team Members into the KFC family, providing a significant number of jobs to the local area.”
The store will operate Sunday to Wednesday from 9:30am – 10pm and Thursday to Saturday from 9:30am – 11pm.
