The heartbroken father of a 12-year-old girl who died in a horror car crash outside Geelong has lashed out in court at the unlicensed driver accused of killing his daughter.
Jordan Kenyon, 29, appeared in the Geelong Magistrates Court via videolink for a brief committal mention on Tuesday, facing 24 charges from the January 3 crash that killed Mia Rossiter.
The North Shore man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, culpable driving causing death, four counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury, careless driving, two counts of failing to have proper control of a motor vehicle, driving without a number plate and multiple counts of breaching bail conditions.
He also faces charges including reckless conduct endangering life, driving while disqualified, multiple counts of dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, two counts of negligently causing serious injury and negligently causing serious injury with a motor vehicle.
Mr Kenyon was allegedly driving erratically when behind the wheel of a car that smashed into another about 9pm on January 3, killing 12-year-old Mia and hospitalising her parents and younger sister.
Mr Kenyon’s passenger also suffered life-threatening injuries.
About two dozen friends and family of Mia packed into the courtroom to watch proceedings, dressed in black shirts emblazoned with the words “Justice for Mia” and “Forever 12”.
Tempers flared after the matter was adjourned until June 18, with Rossiter’s father Paul, who was on crutches, shouting “see you then, f--khead” at Mr Kenyon, before calling him a “little c--t”.
Another member of the gallery told an observer: “If you’re with (Kenyon) tell him he’s going to get his day”.
The court heard the parties had agreed to an adjournment, to give the prosecution time to respond to an offer from the defence.
The prosecution is also awaiting reports from the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine, which will be ready later this month.
