A North Shore man who was allegedly driving erractically before colliding with another car and killing a 12-year-old girl has fronted court.

Jordan Kenyon, 28, is charged with breach of parole, driving while suspended, dangerous driving causing death and four counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury.

On January 3, about 9pm, Mr Kenyon allegedly ploughed into another car at Stonehaven, killing 12-year-old Mia Rossiter and leaving her younger sister fighting for life.

Mr Kenyon, wearing a long-sleeved grey shirt, had a dejected look on his face as he made a brief appearance in the dock of the Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police prosecutor Maille Cornelius told the court it would take about 12 weeks to collect evidence against Mr Kenyon.

“Essentially it’s due to the collision investigation, being able to compile information,” Ms Cornelius said.

Mr Kenyon’s lawyer, Adrian Paull, agreed it would take some time to receive the hand-up brief.

“I understand there are people who are still in hospital, so determining the nature of the injuries, etc, will be relevant,” Mr Paull said.

Magistrate Franz Holzer ordered police to serve their hand-up brief to the court by April 2.

Mr Kenyon will be back before the courts for a committal mention on May 7.

Mr Paull told the court his client had an acquired brain injury and also had mental health problems.

Mia’s half-sister Willow was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries and as of Monday morning she was in a stable condition.

Parents Paul, 38, and Danica Rossiter, 36, also were taken to in hospital in a serious condition.

Ms Rossiter has been released from hospital, while Mr Rossiter remains there in a stable condition.

Mr Kenyon’s passenger, a 21-year-old man from North Shore, also suffered life-threatening injuries and as of Monday morning was in a stable condition.

After the accident police released footage of the white holden Mr Kenyon was allegedly driving appearing to swerve at speed and officers asked the public if they had witnessed erractic driving.

The Geelong community rallied around Mia’s devastated family, from Lismore, Victoria, following the collision.

Mia was only weeks away from celebrating her 13th birthday.

A GoFundMe fundraiser, created by family friend Zach Challoner, has received more than 400 donations, raising $28,400 as of Monday morning.

“She loved to make jokes, loved to be around everyone,” Mr Challoner said.

“She had a very infectious laugh where you just had to laugh when she started laughing.”
