The hunt is on for a truck that spilt oil along the Princes Hwy to Geelong’s west, causing significant delays in both directions.

Emergency services attended an oil spill in Pirron Yallock, about 15km west of Colac, about 5.30pm.

A Country Fire Authority (CFA) spokesman said a number of trucks attended the scene to help with the clean-up, with the “significant” oil spill coming from a moving truck.

However, the truck that spilt the oil appeared to not realise, with police still searching for it on Tuesday evening.

CFA units were still following the spill as of 7.15pm.

The spill caused delays in both directions.

Eyewatch Surf Coast said “police are urging motorists to take care along the Princes Highway tonight after an oil spill earlier this evening”.

“The Highway remains open, but delays are expected between Pirron Yallock and Birregurra,” a post read.

“Please slow down and stay aware of the conditions.”

The VicTraffic website said “Please drive with caution due to an oil spill in the running lanes”.

“Clean up crews are en route with absorbent.

“Please slow down and drive to the conditions.”
