Commuters between Geelong and the Surf Coast will be hit with more road closures next month, with much-needed improvement works set for one of the area’s thoroughfares.
A portion of Horseshoe Bend Rd in Armstrong Creek is set to be closed for 21 weeks as work gets underway to improve the road in anticipation for an influx of traffic in the coming years.
The works will close the road from Warralily Blvd to Burvilles Rd, and are slated to start on September 2, however that date is set to change pending council approval.
It’s understood the works come as more developments are slated for the area, and the road is ill-equipped to handle the expected volume of traffic.
Works will include a widening of the road, as well as drainage and curb shoulder works.
They are expected to be finished and the road reopened by Tuesday, January 28.
As part of the works, the roundabout at the intersection of Boundary Road and Horseshoe Bend Rd will also be closed from August 19.
People who usually use Horseshoe Bend Rd are encouraged to take a detour via Barwon Heads Rd or Surf Coast Highway.
Detour signage will be in place from August 19.
It comes after the Surf Coast Highway was shut for just over two weeks due to a level crossing removal.
Horseshoe Bend Rd has been used as a detour throughout these works.
