A man accused of selling guns and drugs to undercover police will ask a court to grant him bail after spending months locked up on remand.

Caught in an undercover police operation, Hamlyn Heights man Jed Jeanes, 28, was charged with trafficking in a commercial quantity of drugs of dependence and possession of 13 firearms late last year.

Mr Jeanes, who has not yet entered a formal plea, was denied bail in the Geelong Magistrates Court in early December.

His defence lawyer, Murray Brennan, told the court on Tuesday during a committal mention that his client will apply for bail again next week after a half-day hearing to question two police witnesses.

Mr Jeanes was remanded into custody last year after police allegedly found 13 guns in his home, with one officer telling the court it was the largest seizure of guns he has seen in the one search.

Police also allegedly located 90 grams of methamphetamine and 2031 grams of 1-4 Butanol, a chemical that converts to GHB once ingested.

At midday in May 2022, Mr Jeanes allegedly invited undercover cops into his home and led them to a bathroom and bedroom while pointing out places he had stashed a revolver and a longarm firearm.

Mr Jeanes allegedly showed them a 350ml bottle of 1-4 Butanol and poured some of it out as a gift for the officers.

He then allegedly took out what police suspected was $50,000 in cash and revealed he had a 50 litre bottle full of 1-4 Butanol.

Continuing with the house tour, Mr Jeanes allegedly showed the cops a single barrel sawn off shotgun and a pistol in his car.

When police asked if he could sell them a gun, Mr Jeanes allegedly said it would depend on their budget but agreed to look into it.

About a month later, Mr Jeanes allegedly met the undercover operatives and sold them two litres of 1-4 Butanol for $5500.

He then allegedly pulled out a pump-action shotgun from his car, which he claimed was never fired and no longer had its serial number.

Mr Jeanes allegedly handed the officers a sawn off firearm and ammunition cartridges and offered to sell them a handgun he had hidden in his jacket pocket and had already loaded.

The cops allegedly purchased a gun for $7000.

Police allegedly found three shotguns, six rifles and four handguns during a search of Mr Jeanes’ home.

Some of the firearms were allegedly loaded.

During December’s bail hearing, Commonwealth prosecutor Sharon Kermath told the court the undercover investigation had to be cut short “because of a fear (of the risk) he posed to the community”.
