The 18-year-old hopes to study medicine in the future and is looking forward to beginning his studies at university.

“I’m really excited to get to know everyone, I think there are more opportunities at university too,” he said.

“It is going to be a very different experience than high school.”

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) revealed more than 16,000 students were offered a place at their preferred university, independent tertiary college or TAFE institute on Friday.

More than Victorian 40,000 students had already received an offer in the December round.

Deakin University has made more than 7000 offers during several rounds across all campuses for the 2023 intake.

Deakin’s pro vice-chancellor teaching and learning professor Helen Partridge said the university aims to provide flexible and comporary learning for its students.

“Our new students will arrive in a highly supportive, progressive and personalised learning environment,” she said.

This round is the first time that year 12 graduates who completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma have received an offer to study at a tertiary institution after results were released on January 4.

VTAC chief executive officer Teresa Tjia said there will be another four rounds of offers in February.

“VTAC’s preference system allows prospective students to maximise their chance of finding the right course by applying for many study options in one place. 91.2 per cent of our applicants have received at least one offer, with four offer rounds still to come,” she said.
