More than 3000 people hit Geelong’s streets on Sunday morning for the annual Run4Geelong fun run.
Decked out in the now iconic red shirts, runners and walkers of all ages and abilities took part in this year’s iteration which raises funds for Barwon Health.
The event, which is supported by the Geelong Advertiser, sees 100 per cent of every registration fee donated to the participant’s area of choice within Barwon Health.
Barwon Health Foundation executive director Zoe Waters said she was very happy with the community’s response.
“What a day! Run4Geelong is such an important event for the health of Geelong, and we are so thrilled that the community has shown their support of Barwon Health in the most successful event for many years,” Ms Waters said.
“To collectively raise over $165,000 in support of our health service, almost $35,000 more than last year, is an incredible outcome. These funds stay right here in Geelong making a difference in patient comfort and care across the region.
“It’s always such a special sight seeing the sea of red T-shirts weave their way through the streets of our city.
“Thanks must also be given to all the wonderful Run4Geelong sponsors whose support ensures that every dollar of every registration fee goes directly to supporting the cause. Run4Geelong truly brings our community together.”
The crowd was a who’s who of Geelong with ex-Cat Isaac Smith, Deputy PM Richard Marles and Mayor Trent Sullivan joining families, friends, healthcare workers, patients and everyone in-between.
TV personality Geogi Coghlan also took part with her brother, Nigel, who is battling Mantle cell cancer.
Together they have raised over $22,000 in support of Barwon Health through Run4Geelong.
Participants could choose from different distances, including a 10km and 5.5km run, a 1km kids dash, and the TAC all-abilities event.
Pets weren’t left out either, joining in on the popular RunPawGeelong.
The courses took in some of Geelong’s most iconic sights, including the Eastern Beach, waterfront and the Geelong Botanic Gardens.
