Firefighters are responding to a blaze in Leopold after a hay shed caught fire on Friday.
Emergency services have rushed to a Leopold property after a hay shed caught fire on Friday.
Country Fire Authority (CFA) firefighters, paramedics and police are at the scene on Mollers Lane with the blaze not yet under control.
The area sits among rural paddocks with many sheds and homes nearby.
It’s understood the fire is not posing a threat to nearby properties but plumes of smoke can be seen drifting towards Geelong.
A CFA spokesman said smoke will be visible from nearby roads and communities, including the Bellarine Highway.
“Firefighters are currently responding,” he said.
It’s understood the area will need to be excavated to get better access to the shed.
Six fire units have been called.
On arrival, fireys found a structure measuring roughly 10 by 20 metres containing hay bales that were fully alight.
The blaze is not being treated as suspicious and there were no injuries.
