A Geelong paedophile who mailed a vibrator to a 12-year-old girl and arranged to meet her for sex in a dog park has been placed on the sex offender registry for life.

Corio’s Matthew Alexander King, 30, pleaded guilty to grooming a child for sex and involving a child in production of child abuse material in the County Court of Victoria on Tuesday.

The court heard King began communicating with the victim, from Rosebud, through Snapchat in July last year, with the pair sharing a series of sexually charged messages including explicit images and video.

The pair then planned to meet up for sex in a park, with King telling the victim “he would bring a condom”.

The court heard he also purchased a vibrator from Sexy Land and mailed it to her “as a gift”, also using the same debit card to buy her McDonald’s during the grooming process.

He then urged her to set up an Only Fans account – generally used to publish explicit adult content – using the same card to help register it.

The victim then uploaded a sexual image of herself.

Judge Gerard Mullaly would later state that “anyone in the world who wanted to subscribe could see the images of the child.”

“This is beyond direct Snapchat, this is creating child abuse material for the world,” he said.

The court heard after the victim blocked him on Snapchat, he contacted her through another account saying “my family are related to bikies, don’t f*** with me.”

She later called triple-0, with members of the Frankston Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Unit commencing an investigation.

King was arrested and has spent the last 346 days in protective custody at Port Phillip Prison.

He was already on the sex offender list after he was jailed in 2020 for grooming a Snapchat user he wrongly believed was a 14-year-old girl.

The arrest was the result of an undercover sting when a police officer — posing as the teenage girl — began communicating with him on the social media platform.

He had also previously pleaded guilty to charges including grooming and transmitting an indecent image.

In considering his sentence, Judge Mullaly told the court on Tuesday he said he was concerned about the escalation of King’s offending.

“Surely this case is about …. those recidivists who keep doing the same thing and elevate,” he said.

“He has just fell straight back into like offending and elevated it to the seriousness and gravity that is involved here.”

His defence lawyer, Heather Anderson, said her client had not received the appropriate treatment required for his sexual offending.

Crown prosecutor Holly Baxter said prosecution was seeking a non-parole period of imprisonment.

Judge Mullaly adjourned his sentence until August 16.
