Coles Drysdale evacuated after warehouse freezer fire
Shoppers have been evacuated from a Bellarine Peninsula Coles after a small fire broke out in a freezer, sending smoke throughout the store.
A freezer fire at Drysdale Coles has forced the evacuation of customers as three fire trucks rushed to contain the blaze.
A Country Fire Authority (CFA) spokesman said the fire was started inside one of freezers in the warehouse area of the Coles on Murradoc Rd on Sunday afternoon
He said three fire trucks attended, and only took two minutes to get the blaze under control.
“The supermarket had already been evacuated by the time they got there,” he said.
The spokesman said the fire was “possibly electrical, but not suspicious” and had likely caused smoke damage.
While there was minimal damage done to the building, the spokesman say he could not say how much stock was lost inside the supermarket.
He said firefighters stayed for about an hour to monitor the situation.
Coles has been contacted for comment.
